Harper, $24.99, 420 Pages

History delivered with humor is?in many a reader?s opinion?one of the best ways to retain the actual information, let alone enjoy reading it. Erik Sass appears aptly named; his bawdy method of relating lesser-known historical facts while poking fun at his fellow Americans lets one easily imagine the author gleefully penning his prose while sporting a ?Hindsight is 20-20!? t-shirt.

??it turns out that ?patriotic? and ?knowledgeable? can be two different things??

Unfortunately, during his trips into the highly-entertaining realm of mockery, Sass deviates from the facts on numerous occasions.? The sheer volume of personal opinion injected into history is this piece?s one detraction. Despite this, ample snickers and even bouts of laughter were provoked while reading this book.? So enjoy that and take a goodly number of salt grains simultaneously.
