CPhA appointment as CEO Jon Roth | Health & Fitness News

Roth wants to eliminate these obstacles and make the most of pharmacists? skills and training. He believes that health reform is the perfect vehicle to help achieve this goal. The U.S. government expects that more than 30 million people will be insured from the moment the law is fully implemented in 2019. In addition to this is that it will continue to be a shortage of doctors, at least in the short term. ?This will impact people who are trying to access the delivery system,? he said.Roth believes that over the past ten years, the CDA Foundation has prepared me for this next challenge. ?It gave me an excellent opportunity to deal with health care providers who are not yet part of the regular delivery system,? he said. ?I was in a strategic role in how we thought we could build relationships to help improve the cost of care delivery and outcomes. This is very strong in my role within CPhA.

Roth comes to CPhA, having been executive director of the California Dental Association (CDA) Foundation for almost 10 years. E ?was selected from a group of 12 candidates from the select committee to search a pool of 80 candidates. The committee also reduced the field to five candidates who were brought for interviews. Two final candidates were brought in a second interview.

Jon Roth brings a strange sight of his new role as CEO of the California Pharmacists Association (CPhA). And the outsider perspective that says that pharmacists are just beginning to discover how to provide care to patients and how to move forward in this era of health reform.

He believes he can bring to CPhA a broader perspective when it comes to helping pharmacists in their practices more successful in California, integrating the pharmacy in the conventional system of care delivery. ?I had a lot of experience, particularly in the ADC, thinking about how we are improving the health professions,? he said. ?In this time of change with the health care reform, there is tremendous opportunity to expand the role of pharmacists.?

In addition, said Kenneth Roth, CPhA can work to achieve a political consensus by bringing together divergent points of view of both inside and outside the pharmacies. ?It ?s an opportunity for the Association to act as a force to be convened,? he said. ?My role as CEO is to ensure that the concerns and questions of the members [of the CPhA] are at the forefront.?

?It was the only candidate to bring about health reform,? said Gupta. ?He showed how he could capitalize on the reform of Pharmacy degree.?

Eric Gupta, Chairman of the Board and Chairman of the Selection Committee CPhA, said the committee felt Roth?s impressive for two reasons. He has extensive experience as director of operations, taking the CDA Foundation to an institution to initiate an organization with a budget of $ 3.5 million per year. He also presented a better understanding of the landscape of health compared to other candidates, in particular with regard to the health care reform.

Roth, who has 20 years of experience in the care and management of health organizations, will begin his term as Director General of the CPhA November 22, replacing Lynn Rolston, who announced his retirement in May.

He stressed that pharmacists can play a more active role in providing services in the community. ?Pharmacists are already on the front of the interaction with patients on a daily basis,? said Roth. ?Why not ask your pharmacist for the first person in line, offering additional services that can solve the health problems simple enough??

Roth describes the current status of patient care, such as hierarchical in nature. A patient gets sick and goes to the doctor, emergency care, emergency services. If necessary, the prescription is written and the patient gets to the pharmacy to be filled. In this system, he believes that pharmacists are little used in patient care. ?[Pharmacists] are the portions of a very special person who is not related to the delivery system,? said Kenneth Roth.
