LBC-GLA Member & current Pan American Bank President and CEO Jesse Torres has just been appointed to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau?s (CFPB) inaugural Community Bank Advisory Council.? CFPB Director Richard Cordray announced the composition of the 14-member Community Bank Advisory Council on 9/12/12 after an exhaustive selection process. ?The CFPB created the Community Bank Advisory Council to provide advice to CFPB leadership on a broad range of consumer financial issues and emerging market trends from the community bank perspective.
Torres serves as the Latino Business Chamber of Greater Los Angeles? Co-Chair of the Banking Committee and has been engaged in analyzing ordinances on fair lending practices with particular relevance to low and moderate income borrowers.? Jorge Corralejo, Chairman & CEO of the LBC-GLA stated that ?This critically important regulatory agency selected a great candidate, the best that we have.? He represents both the small banking community and our consumers as well.?? The LBC-GLA has proven time and again with its critical appointments to be critical leaders of the small and medium business community.
In its advocacy efforts, the LBC-GLA has been working with key CFPB staff over the past year and recently met with Richard Cordray and with Congressman Xavier Becerra in Los Angeles.
