The American job seeker works very hard to get a great position, however sometimes it?s the little things that prevent one from getting the job offer that they want. ?While not making these mistakes tend to be common sense, it never hurts to get a refresher.

1. Don?t apply to too many jobs ? You should be doing enough research on the firms that you are interviewing with. ?Therefore, if you?re taking the proper time per job that you are applying for, you?re going to be spreading yourself too thin upon going for an abundance of jobs.

2. Not setting goals ? If you don?t have a clear goal for your job search, it?s going to be harder to see successful results. ?Sometimes setting goals can be scary as we are afraid of missing them and, thus being very hard on ourselves, but it is well worth it.

Just as if you were at a job and have a quota, you should have a rigid standard that you should hold yourself to when searching for a job.

3. Taking a job to take a job ? While you should not be over-picky, you should not simply take a job to end your job search. ?Make sure that the company has opportunity for growth, cares about their employees and is going to upgrade you as a member of their team.

When you look closely, you?d be surprised as to how many companies lack these traits.

4. Be proactive ? Don?t just wait for employers to come to you. ?Find jobs on your own. ?There are some great ways to find great positions and these include direct company websites, research on Yahoo! Finance and many more.

When seeking a job, creativity and being proactive yield very strong results and give the job seeker more options to access and, eventually pick the job that is right for them.

5. If you?re not learning, you?re not fully searching for a job ? When looking for a job, you should be learning the different skills needed and required for the positions that you?re looking at. ?Do you feel that you have these skills already? ?Great. ?Now it?s time to expand your knowledge on these subjects.

You must believe that you are going to be successful in your job search. ?Everybody endures rejection, but not everybody embraces the challenge that is seeking out and receiving a great offer from a great company.
