NJSIAA South Group 4

(2) Cherokee 5, (3) Toms River South 1: Jim Rossi tossed a four-hitter as Cherokee (22-5, 5-2) defeated visiting Toms River South (22-6) in a South Jersey Group 4 semifinal game on May 29.

Rossi allowed just one earned run and one walk with six strikeouts on 81 pitches.

Ryan Krupa went 3-for-3 for the Chiefs, highlighted by a two-run single in the fourth inning, while teammate Ryan Kelley went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored.

(12) Lenape 10, (9) Williamstown 6: Lenape (16-8, 2-5) defeated host Williamstown in a South Jersey Group 4 semifinal game on May 29.

Bobby Isopi led the Indians by going 2-for-2 with two runs scored, while Kevin McGarry had two hits, including a home run, and run scored.

Chris Ross earned the win in relief as he struck out two in two-plus innings of work.

(2) Cherokee 3, (12) Lenape 0: Cherokee (23-5, 5-2) shut out visiting Lenape (16-10, 2-5) in the South Jersey Group 4 championship game on June 1.

Colin Perro earned the win as he struck out four, scattered five hits and two walks in 5 1/3 scoreless innings pitched. Sean Kelly allowed one hit and a walk with three strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings of relief.

Jordan Grover went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, stolen base and RBI.

Tyler Mixon went 3-for-4 with a stolen base for the Indians, while pitcher Kevin Milley worked six innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Regular Season

Washington Twp. 6, Lenape 4: Washington Township defeated host Lenape (16-9, 2-5) to capture the Olympic Conference American Division title on May 30.

Pat Rodier doubled and scored a run for the Indians, who had nine hits from nine different players.

Township pitcher Matt Long earned the win, walking two and fanning four in five innings of work.

Sam Nocito was tagged with the loss despite striking out seven in four-plus innings of work.

SOFTBALL

NJSIAA South Group 4

(3) Eastern 6, (2) Shawnee 3: Eastern eliminated Shawnee (21-4, 7-0) in the South Jersey Group 4 semifinals on May 29.

Steph Vuono scattered six hits and four walks while striking out nine for the Vikings, who avenged a regular-season loss to the Renegades.

Eastern?s Madison Tiernan accounted for three or her team?s six runs.

Shawnee was plagued by six errors in the game. Jacklyn Pezzato pitched well as she allowed just four hits and three walks with seven strikeouts.

Kaitlyn Konopka (2-for-3, double, 2 runs scored) and Taylor Gilligan (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) highted Shawnee?s offensive showing.
