?Living Well? workshops

ROCKPORT ? ?Living Well for Better Health? is a series of free workshops open to any adult who has a long-term health condition. The program will run a new session 1-3:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 6-Oct. 11, at the Picker Family Resource Center Participants are invited to bring a family member or friend.

The series is for people with any long-term health condition, such as diabetes, arthritis, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure and depression. Participants learn how to deal with pain and feeling tired, eat healthful foods and exercise, communicate effectively with their physicians, manage medications, and set goals and make changes. Healthful snacks will be served.

The program will be led by Wendelanne Augunas and Linda Zeigler, co-directors of the Picker Center.

An informational meeting about the program will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at the Picker Family Resource Center, Women?s Health Building, Pen Bay Medical Center campus, 3 Glen Cove Drive, Suite 2. For more information or to register for the series, call 596-8950.

Aging and Disabilities Resource Center information

Spectrum Generations is an Aging and Disabilities Resource Center. Join Consumer Information Specialist Cynthia Troxel at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at the center to learn what this designation means.

Since 2007, Spectrum Generations has been a federally designated resource center providing information and counseling to aging individuals and to those 18 and older with disabilities. The ADRC provides help in assessing potential needs and eligibility for all available long-term care services. Follow-up is provided to determine outcomes and the success of referrals to other programs and benefits.

Community liaison nurse

ROCKLAND ? Pen Bay Healthcare announced that Sarah Dwelley has assumed the position of community liaison nurse with Pen Bay Healthcare?s Kno-Wal-Lin Home Care and Hospice. Dwelley has more than 30 years? experience in nursing, with an extensive background in home care, hospice and palliative care.

Dwelley?s role is to work closely with referral sources, such as physician practices, hospital discharge planners, and nursing and rehabilitation facilities, educating them about Kno-Wal-Lin?s wide range of home care services as well as the ever-changing government regulations and insurance issues concerning home health care. She also follows up to determine whether treatment is working well for existing patients and to make any needed improvements to care.

In addition, Dwelley serves as an educator and contact person for the Greater community, helping people and organizations understand the benefits of home care and providing educational programs on many topics, such as safety in the home, hospice and palliative care.

?A Life in Balance?

ROCKPORT ? Cancer survivor and healthy food expert Meg Wolff of Cape Elizabeth will discuss her latest book, ?A Life in Balance? at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, at Pen Bay?s Picker Family Resource Center, Women?s Health building, 3 Glen Cove Drive, Suite 2.
