TUSCALOOSA | After a lengthy absence, the University of Alabama made its official return to the NCAA Basketball Tournament Sunday when the Crimson Tide learned it earned a No.9 seed.
UA will face No.8-seed Creighton in its first-round game in Greensboro, N.C., on Friday.
It is the first time UA has been to the NCAA Tournament since UA coach Anthony Grant took over the program three seasons ago. Alabama's last NCAA Tournament bid came in 2006 under former coach Mark Gottfried.
Kentucky, runner-up in the Southeastern Conference Tournament, earned the No.1 seed in the South Region. Other No. 1 seeds include Syracuse (East), North Carolina (Midwest) and Michigan State (West).
Other SEC teams in the tournament include Florida and Vanderbilt.
